The Silo

Enjoy the sounds and sights of nature and farm when you stay in the converted silo-house located our farm along the Thames river, near Glencoe Ontario.

The rustic silo is a 4.5 storey cottage, featuring a fully stocked kitchen with microwave, oven, and coffee maker, a dining area, 1 full bathroom and two bedrooms (1 Queen, 1 single + 1 double futon). Additionally, after winding the spiral stairs, past the master bed with views over the cut-flower garden you enter the silo chamber where your voices echo to the top and singing is enchanting. The first storey/base is separated from the rest of the space and is not included in the rental.

The Old River Farm is a place of solace and connection to the land, guests can explore the ponds, grasslands, and steep wooded forests. It is an excellent site for birdwatching, relaxation, and creativity. The silo has excellent views of the cut-flower field, pasture, and rolling hills across the river.

We are an active working farm, so “farm” things should be expected including, insects, mud, vehicle noise and daytime activity. If interested, you’re welcome to join in for the real farm experience of moving cattle, harvesting, and stewarding the land. 

Important things to note:

• The Silo is not an accessible building, there are many flights of stairs, tight turning spaces and uneven ground to access the building. 

• There is no air-conditioning or heat in the silo. - fans and space heaters will be provided seasonally to keep you comfortable.

• The tap water is not potable and must be boiled for use for cooking, The drinking water is located in the blue jug water cooler

• The silo is rustic, think of it as 5 star-camping
